Mental-health problems

In Scotland, one person in every four will experience mental-health problems at some point in their lives.  This page is about where you can find help for yourself or someone you're worried about.

First steps

Please talk to your GP.  A number of GPs in East Lothian offer counselling at their surgeries for people experiencing stress, anxiety or depression.  They can also refer you to a Community Pschiatric Nurse, who can offer psychological support to you at home.  There are also local organisations that can offer help, for example, CHANGES community mental-health project (82 High Street, Musselburgh EH21 7BX - tel: 0131 653 3977).

If you would like to talk to someone about your relationship with your partner, you could contact:

Couple Counselling also run 11-18, which is a service for young people who want to talk about how they feel when their parents or carers are splitting up.

You can access the Child and Adolescent Mental-Health Service (CAHMS) through your GP or school.
