Young Person's Drop-in Centre

If you're under 20, you can also use the young person's Drop-in Centre at the East Wing Medical Centre, Musselburgh (Fridays 1.30pm to 3.30pm).  The Drop-in Centre is for young people from all over East Lothian.

C:card

C:card is a network of points across Lothian where you can get free condoms.  There are two types of c:card point – c:card direct and c:card plus.

C:card direct is for people aged 16 and over who want free condoms.  C:card plus is for people aged 13 and over who want free condoms.  Other sexual health services, for example, pregnancy testing.

C:card operates out of health centres at North Berwick, Dunbar, Tranent, Musselburgh (Esk East surgery) and Newton Port Surgery in Haddington.  All you have to do to get free condoms is go to the health centre best for you, give your date of birth and first part of your postcode.  You can’t be traced from this information.

You can also use the c: card direct point and Jewel and Esk Valley College.

To find out more about c:card, visit www.ccard.org.uk

GUM

If you think you may have a sexually transmitted infection, you can either go to your GP or attend the GUM (Genito Urinary Medicine) clinic at Lauriston Place, Edinburgh.  Many women who have been sexually assaulted worry about the possibility of sexually transmitted infections.  The risk is small, but it’s a good idea to come along to GUM for an examination, including swab tests for specific infections.  These swabs should be taken at least 5 days after the assault, and are different to any tests you may already have had from the police doctor.  There is a walk-in clinic each morning from 8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m. or you can make an appointment for an afternoon clinic by phoning 0131 536 2103.
