4. Aims
|
To provide locally accessible, confidential and non-judgemental services to reduce drug-related harm to individuals, families and the wider community across Midlothian and East Lothian.
|

5. Activities
|
We provide:
· Free and confidential advice, information, support and counselling to drug users, their friends and families.
· A library with information on the effects of drug use and related issues such as HIV and Hepatitis C.
· Training for community groups, local workers and agencies on drug related issues.
In addition to this we also have the following specialised services:
Midlothian Substance Misuse Offenders Service – this service is available to anyone who has committed an offence who has problems with drugs or alcohol. This service is available to clients living in the Midlothian area.
East Lothian Arrest Referral Scheme - this scheme is offered to anyone who has a drug or alcohol problem and who has been arrested. This service is available to clients living in the East Lothian area.
East Lothian Locality Clinic – this service offers assessment, stabilisation and reduction programmes in partnership with a GP specialist and the CDPS. This service is available for clients living in the East Lothian area.
Family Support - this service provides one to one support and self help groups for anyone affected by another persons’ drug use. This service is available to people living in Midlothian and East Lothian.
Complimentary Therapies – MELD offers Ear Acupuncture and other various alternative therapies.

16. Referral procedure
|
Referrals are received from individuals, families and friends or other agencies .An appointment is made to attend an assessment, where information is gathered from the client about their drug use. .Project workers will then provide individual counselling, support and advice.

17. Requirements
|
In order to liase with other agencies (e.g. Social Work, Housing, Education etc.) the agreement of the client is required.
