Day services

About Day Services for Adults with Disabilities

We provide a range of day services for disabled and/or vulnerable adults, some of which are delivered by other agencies, for example, The Scottish Society for Autism.

Our Resource Centres offer a range of Centre- and community-based activities and opportunities to people who have a disability.  We want to help people achieve their maximum potential and live as independently as possible.

We also have outreach workers who support disabled people in a range of work settings.

Voluntary organisations provide support, activities and day care for particular groups of people.

What you should know

We carry out a Community Care Assessment to work out what resources we can offer you.  The assessment takes into account what level of disability and/or vulnerability you have, or the person you are caring for has.

When will Council consider you for Day Services for Adults?
Criteria

You must be:

  • living alone and have a disability or chronic illness, or be vulnerable, or
  • living with someone else who would qualify for Day Services for Adults, or
  • living with, or supported by, a carer who needs support or a break from the caring tasks because of  the level of needs you have, or
  • need the service to restore, maintain or increase your ability to live as independently in the community as possible.

What sort of service will you get?

Normally, the service manager, you and/or your carer meet with Centre staff to work out the level of service you need. Following this meeting, we will assess how the services are working for you for the first six weeks.  This will help us to develop a programme that meets your needs.  As part of this, we will draw up a personal plan with you to make sure that the services you receive meet the National Care Standards.

Charges

There is no charge for this service.  We do charge for lunches and we may charge for materials that you use during activities.
