Walkin East Lothian
Picture of people walking

“Walkin' East Lothian” is a Paths to Health project which aims to get more people walking in their local area, especially people who take little exercise at present or live in areas of poor health .The scheme will promote established local path networks in central locations for the healthy walking programme.

Why walking? Walking briskly is almost the perfect exercise and requires no equipment or expense. Almost anyone can do it and you can start slowly and build up.

The project will offer

  • A programme of volunteer led health walks (initially in Dunbar beginning March 2004)
  • Information on local walks (leaflets and maps)
  • Promotion of independent walking (details and directions for longer walks)
  • Awareness raising of the health benefits of walking
  • Improvements to local paths

What do led walks offer participants?

  • They provide an opportunity for social contact which can motivate people to walk regularly
  • They overcome the fear barrier of walking alone
  • They can help people who are insecure to take the first steps
  • Walk leaders can provide useful information and advice on walking, it's benefits and features on the route that may be of interest

Walkin' Dunbar has a programme of short 30 minute led health walks in and around Dunbar. Meet at Dunbar Leisure Pool, Victoria Street, Dunbar on Tuesdays at !0.30am
