NOTES ON PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATION FOR BOOKMAKER'S PERMIT
1. Bookmaker's Permits are granted in January, March, June and October.
2. Application may be made at any time for a Permit but should be lodged at least 6 weeks before the Board Meeting at which the application is to be considered.
3. Within 7 days of the application being lodged with the Board, the applicant must send copies of the application to:-
(a) The Chief Superintendent, Lothian & Borders Police, Divisional Headquarters, Dalkeith.
(b) The Betting & Gaming Officer, H. M. Customs & Excise, 44 York Place, Edinburgh.
4. Within 14 days of making application, the applicant must publish notice of his/her application in a local newspaper, intimating that anyone wishing to object to the application should send two copies of such objection to the Clerk to the Licensing Board within 14 days of the date of the notice.
5. Within 7 days of the notice appearing in the newspaper, the applicant should send a copy of the entire newspaper containing the notice to the Clerk to the Licensing Board.
6. The Clerk to the Licensing Board requires to give not less than 7 days notice of the hearing to the applicant and to any other objector, at the same time sending a copy of any objection to the applicant.
7. Permits granted prior to March 2000 require to be renewed at the meeting of the Licensing Board in March 2000 and every three years thereafter. Permits granted in March 2000 and thereafter will require to be renewed in March 2003 and every three years thereafter.
