Amenity Services is responsible for front line provision of maintenance on most of the public open space in East Lothian. Whether it's the piece of grass at your back door, the litter on your pavement, the football pitch that you use on a Saturday or the Right of Way that you walk your dog on, you can guarantee the Amenity Services team will have visited the area recently to cut, sweep, mark out or spray in an effort to keep the county looking at its best. Because of the wide range of maintenance responsibilities we fulfil, we are fairly unique in so much as we provide services that impact on the quality of life of every single resident of and visitor to East Lothian.
Investing heavily in equipment, staff and training, as well as developing carefully thought out management plans and initiatives, we're constantly striving to maintain the public open space within the county to the highest standard.

Amenity Services is also trying to develop stronger links with community councils, tenant and residents associations and other community groups with a view to giving the public a greater say in the standards, levels and range of services provided within each discrete community
We are also making a significant contribution to the environmental objectives of the Council by reducing chemical usage, protecting and enhancing wildlife habitats and developing a culture of health, safety and well being in all our activities.
During 2006, the unit achieved a 70% rate for recycling the litter and grounds maintenance waste produced. Some of the products of this recycling, such as composts and rubble are now being used in landscaping and maintenance of the open space.
