How to Apply for smartcard

Who can apply for a Smartcard?
Anyone living, working or studying in East Lothian can apply for a Smartcard.

Where can I apply?
You can either complete an application form at any East Lothian public library branch, or print one off from this page, fill it in and take it along to one of the public library branches.

What will I need to bring when I apply?
When you apply, we will need to take your photograph, which can be done in the library or, if you prefer, you can supply your own passport sized photograph. We will also need to see proof of your identity, address and date of birth.

Proof of your identity can be in the form of a Birth Certificate, Passport, Adoption Certificate, Driving Licence, Immigration Certificate or Naturalisation Papers.

Proof of date of birth can be in the form of a Passport, Driving Licence, Birth Certificate or Adoption Certificate.

Proof of address can be in the form of a Council Tax Bill, Tenancy Agreement, Benefit Book, recent Utilities Bill, Bank/Credit Card Statement, UK Driving Licence, Television Licence, letter from Care or Residential Home, letter from Local Authority.

How much does it cost?
Applying for an Access East Lothian Smartcard is free to all residents of East Lothian.

Non-residents who are working or studying in East Lothian will be charged a small fee to cover the cost of producing the card. A fee may be charged to cover the cost of replacing lost or damaged cards. Currently the fee is £3.
