What is 'Homeseeker'?
Homeseeker provides an advice service to anyone seeking housing in East Lothian whether in the public or private sector, for rent or to buy. It is able to offer advice about housing options.
Why has it been set up?
Affordable housing is in very short supply in East Lothian, as it is a popular place to live. East Lothian Council is addressing the problem but it will take time to build the needed houses. Meanwhile, the Homeseeker project provides help, to find a place to stay. In addition current practice in applying for Council Housing does not give applicants enough information about their prospects or advice about how best to manage their options.
How can Homeseeker help?
Homeseeker looks into the customers circumstances and shows them what their options are. For would-be Council tenants, that might mean explaining which areas have the shortest housing lists, or how to maximize 'points' on the list. In addition we advise about likely Housing Benefit entitlement. For customers who wish to rent from a private landlord or a Housing Association Homeseeker can also explain what the choices are. For private buyers we can pinpoint where housing is most affordable and help them calculate what can be afforded.
How does it work?
Homeseeker will offer an interview at which we assess individual circumstances. Our Personal Housing Advisors are experienced in finding solutions to housing problems. They are well informed about housing in East Lothian.
