Athelstaneford Primary School

Athelstaneford Primary School is located in the village of Athelstaneford, East Lothian.  The school provides primary education (Primary 1 – Primary 7) in three composite classes and also has a nursery class catering for three and four year olds.

The school board was established in 2001 and is currently chaired by Mrs Madee Chandler.

Achievements in 2004

Elite Catering presented details of the new healthy eating action plan for school meals.  The new strict guidelines for nutrition to reduce salt, fat and sugar in school meals are now being implemented.

The School Travel Plan Coordinator gave a presentation about ideas to encourage active methods of getting to school, such as a ‘walking bus’.  Schools are being encouraged to formulate a travel plan before the end of the year.

The School Board wrote to East Lothian Council and to Unison to encourage a resolution to the Nursery Nurses strike, on behalf of parents.

The Head Teacher has provided reports on the progress and activities of the school at each School Board meeting.

Our Aims for the Next Year (04/05)

To continue to represent parents as a whole, to the school and the community.

To provide support and a channel of communication for any issues that cause concern to a majority of parents.

To help formulate further information sections in the School Handbook for new pupils.
