Details on Licensing Board Meetings:-
East Lothian Licensing Board hold their Quarterly Board Meetings every January, March, June and October. The Board Meetings commence at 10 a.m. and are held in Conference Rooms 1 and 2, 1st Floor, John Muir House, Haddington, unless otherwise notified. These meetings are open to the public.
In attendance at the Board Meetings are:-
- The Licensing Board Members (in East Lothian there are 21 serving Board Members)
- Lothian and Borders Police.
- Lothian and Borders Firebrigade.
- Officials from East Lothian Council’s Environment Department, Building Control Department and sometimes Planning Department.
- Members of the local press.
- Applicants and/or representatives and solicitors.

The following people and organisations can all object to a licensing application:-
Writing an Objection
When you wish to object to an application for a new licence you must:-
Write to the Clerk to the Licensing Board (Mr. Keith MacConnachie) stating the grounds of your objection, this is based on Section 17 of the Licensing (Scotland) act 1976.
One or more of the following categories must be relevant:
- The applicant is not a fit and proper person to hold a licence – Section 17(1)(a)
- The sale of alcohol, having regard to their location, character, condition, the nature of the proposed use and the clientele – Section 17(1)(b).
- The sale of alcoholic liquor is likely to cause undue public nuisance, or a threat to public order or safety – Section 17(1)(c).
- There are already enough licensed premises in the area – Section 17(1)(d)
