A wide-ranging collection of books, journal articles, documents and ephemera relating to people, places and events in East Lothian. Books by local authors are included. Most general topics are covered on a county basis, but also on a more specific level, such as parish, town or village. Material includes Statistical Accounts (one for each parish in the 1790s, 1830s and 1950s); town guides and tourist guides from the mid-nineteenth century; newspaper scrapbooks; county development plans (post World War II) and census data.

East Lothian Annual Registers and Yearbooks
Years covered: 1820-1970 (with gaps). These are not trade directories, but almanacs containing a wealth of miscellaneous information such as local officials (schoolmasters, etc), voters, landed gentry, farmers, carriers, local societies, post offices.
