Become a borrower
If you want to borrow from our libraries, you should fill in a registration form and supply 1 form of identification (e.g. driving licence, passport or birth certificate), together with a document detailing your current address e.g. utility bill, bank statement. Children under the age of 16 need to have their form signed by a parent or guardian.
You can also now ask for a Smartcard instead of a library card, which will allow you to access several council services instead of just one. For more details click here, or ask at your local library.
To download a smartcard application form please click here. Please print out this form and complete with your details. You can then bring the form in to any East Lothian Library together with your forms of identification.
What you can borrow:
Adults - up to 15 items (a combination of up to 10 books, up to 4 audio books, videos or CDs and up to 2 CD ROMs).
Teenagers (12-16) - up to 10 items (a combination of up to 10 books, up to 4 audio books, videos or CDs and up to 2 CD ROMs).
Children under 12 - up to 10 items (a combination of up to 8 books, up to 4 audio books, videos or CDs and up to 2 CD ROMs).
Loans are for 3 weeks, but can be extended for a further period on request (by letter, phone, online or in person) if the items are not required by another borrower. Long-term loans for study and holidays can usually be arranged. Overdue charges are made if adult loans are not returned on time. There is no charge for loans by children. Not all categories of stock are available on the shelves in your library. You can borrow popular fiction and non-fiction in hardback and paperback, language courses (from beginners to advanced), car workshop manuals, OS maps 1:50000 (for all of UK), sheet music, large print books, audio books, non-fiction videos, government publications, DVDs and music CDs.
