Smartcards - Pupil Registration Project
Pupil Registration

The Pupil Registration Project has provided a fully implemented electronic pupil registration function operating in all six East Lothian secondary schools.

Electronic pupil registration is part of the smartcard project because there is the option to use a smartcard with the electronic registration.

Once implemented, the electronic pupil registration system will enable all the teachers to record the attendance of all pupils in all classes electronically instead of by the current paper-based method.

'am' electronic registration has been implemented in Dunbar Grammar, Preston Lodge High, North Berwick High, Ross High, Musselburgh Grammar and Knox Academy.

It has made the registration process quicker for the schools, enabling absences to be reported more quickly than with manual registration.

A full pilot of Lesson-By-Lesson electronic registration has taken place at Dunbar Grammar, overall the results were positive. The project is now looking at how to roll this out to the remaining five secondary schools.
