Cashless Catering is the new way of paying for school meals, it has been introduced to all 6 secondary schools. It allows students to pay for school meals without carrying cash, instead they can pay for meals using a smartcard, this has helped speed up the flow of customers through the till.
It means that parents/guardians don't need to find the cash for school meals on a daily basis, instead they can send in cheques or cash in advance. Students entitled to free school meals use the same type of card as everyone else, the computer automatically credits the cost of a two-course meal to their account, this means that at the point of sale it is not possible to tell who gets free meals and who doesn't.
Students can also use this card in ELC public libraries and as their Young Scot card.
The Cashless Catering system also allows for the promotion of healthy eating through incentive schemes and provides improved management information.
Internet Payment of School Meals
An Internet payment facility which will allow parents/guardians to pay for school meals using switch or credit card from home is available for all secondary schools.
