DNA(S) Project
Street Sign

DNA(S) stands for Definitive National Addressing (Scotland)

The DNA(S) Project has provided a Street Gazetteer, which has been used as an ingredient for ELC’s corporate address gazetteer (CAG). It is also used by the Transportation Dept in activities such as planning the gritting of roads in winter.

The corporate address gazetteer will be the most accurate, comprehensive source of East Lothian property address data. This data is being used by the UNIform planning, environmental health and trading standards systems.

A data custodian maintains the corporate address data and is developing the Council’s geographical information systems.

The DNA(S) Project is now complete.

The process of updating the National Infrastructure with the CAG and vice versa are part of the CRM Project.

A new project is now underway to link other Council systems to the property data in the CAG. This will lead to more accurate and consistent property data being used when we deliver the services that we provide..

The Scottish Executive also requires each Local Authority to provide a CAG of a suitable standard to allow the Executive to create a Scottish Gazetteer.
