Schools WAN Project
Network Diagram

The Schools WAN (SWAN) Project is the Schools Wide Area Network Project.

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing wide area network for all primary and secondary schools in East Lothian.

The current schools network is limited in bandwidth and can be very slow and can even prevent essential e-mails and internet downloads from taking place due to size and speed limitations.

The proposed network will increase speed for all schools by improving the bandwidth available, it will reduce down time and slow performance and increase security.

This work has been tendered for and a supplier has been selected, implementation of a pilot to one secondary and two primary schools is now underway.

The current target is for the new updated network to be in place for all secondary, primary and nursery schools by the end of 2007.
