On The Trail

Walking brings visitors into close contact with the landscape.  How else could you see such stunning views of East Lothian’s coast and countryside? Hear the sounds of the waves, and the birdsong? Breathe in the clean air, and appreciate the taste of locally produced food.  You’ll truly feel the sense of welcome from hospitality providers after an invigorating walk by the North Sea.

East Lothian Council wants all walkers on the John Muir Way to enjoy and appreciate the unique cultural landscapes and natural environment they are walking through. The whole trail also provides a valuable recreational facility for local communities.

The John Muir Way will extend for 70Km when complete.  Almost half has already been waymarked and promoted through three attractive colour leaflets highlighting the places of interest on the route.

These leaflets can be downloaded or obtained from libraries, tourist information offices, or directly from East Lothian Council.  Further leaflets will be published as additional sections are developed.

The John Muir Way can be tackled in short sections or as part of a circular walk as there are many linking paths.

Public transport is also available at many points along the route to return you to your starting point.  Visit www.travelinescotland.com or Tel: 0870 608 2 608 for information on travel in East Lothian.

Look out for the North Sea Trail logo on waymarkers and on local businesses and you’ll stay on the right track.
