Smartcards Project
YS Card

The Smartcard is a voluntary entitlement card that allows access to different council services using one card.

The Smartcard Project has been broken down into manageable sub-projects, they are as follows, click on the links to find out more about the individual projects:

Concessionary Travel – The new national concessionary travel scheme enables older and disabled people to travel, to/from, anywhere in Scotland by bus for free. This project is now complete.

Young Person's Entitlement Card - Young people aged 11-25 (inclusive) can now apply for the National Entitlement Card. This project will also issue concessionary travel discounts to 16-18 year olds and full-time volunteers up to the age of 25.

Leisure – The project has procured and implemented a new Leisure Management System within SportPlus. In the future Smartcards will be introduced as membership cards for East Lothian Council leisure centres.

Libraries – Smartcards are now available in all twelve East Lothian public libraries, library services are also available over the internet. Students in secondary schools can access the school library service using their smartcards. This project is now complete.

Pupil Registration – Electronic pupil registration has been installed in all six East Lothian secondary schools, it has helped make the registration process quicker, enabling absences to be reported more quickly than with manual registration.

Cashless Catering – This is now installed in all six East Lothian secondary schools, it’s the new way of paying for school meals using a smartcard. This project is now complete.

Dialogue Youth – The main output from this project is the resource and research base in Musselburgh. Young Scot/Proof of Age cards have also been issued at all ELC secondary schools. This project is now complete.

Smartcard Support - The Customer Service team now has responsibility for support of East Lothian's smartcard scheme.

Smartcard Management System – A system for managing cardholder and card data has been installed. This project is now complete.
