| There are many sources of legal advice |
There are two Citizens Advice Bureaux in East Lothian, one in Musselburgh and the other in Haddington. They operate independently, within the framework of Citizens Advice Scotland and are staffed mainly by volunteers supported by professional managers. They are committed to providing advice on a wide range of subjects to any citizen.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and a wide range of age groups. They receive specialized training by CAB to provide the best possible service for the clients.Although the government, through East Lothian Council and other sources, contributes towards funding the CABx, they are independent organisations, which are not obliged to follow the government 'line'.The advice is free, confidential and impartial. It ranges over a wide area of subjects, from financial matters, through for example, to eviction, mortgage repossessions and relationship breakdown.
CABx are licensed by the Office of Fair Trading (O.F.T) to provide a debt counselling service. The CAB's say that they: 'aim to empower and enable clients to make informed choices and take appropriate action regarding their circumstances, by providing information and advice and assistance.'
