Arrears advice

Debts to the Council including Council Tax and Rent Arrears should be dealt with by contacting the Finance department, and details of how to do this can be found here.

For debts which have come brought about through benefits problems, the Welfare Rights team can help and ensure you get your due entitlement. Housing Benefit is one area of particular difficulty.

If you are aged between 16-21, the Musselburgh-based Bridges Project can offer debt advice especially tailored to young people and information about them is available here.

The two Citizens Advice Bureaux, in Musselburgh and Haddington broadly cover the East and West of the county. They have specialist money and debts advisors and can deal with a wide range of problems. Contact details are available here.

Citizen's Advice Scotland also has a web-based Advice guide, which can help on a wide range of debt and consumer issues.
