Empty Houses - a new Void Management Policy for East Lothian
A question often asked, is why some Council houses lie empty? There can be many reasons for this - but the Council's policy is to re-tenant our properties as quickly as we can.
Following an extensive consultation with stakeholders, East Lothian Council has made changes to the way it relets empty ('Void') houses. With the new policy, we aim to define our service standards, and communicate clearly to our customers what they can expect when moving into a Council House.
The Voids Management process makes up a significant part of the day-to-day work undertaken by our Community Housing & Property Maintenance Section. So we need to provide clear directions to staff and customers about the process. We also have to ensure that we meet our legal obligations and follow best practice.
