New free service to benefit disabled people in Haddington
Local Area Co-ordination is a new free service for disabled children, adults and their families
Local Area Co-ordination is a new free service for disabled children, adults and their families in the Haddington area. It is provided by Capability Scotland on behalf of East Lothian Council and acts as a one stop shop which can link disabled people, of all ages, with the support they need in any aspect of this life.
The service is about more than just providing a connection to local resources. A local area co-ordinator is a person connected with and based in the local community. We can:
o
Provide information and offer advice and encouragement
o
Help you to make plans to live your life
o
Connect you to resources and natural supports within your community
o
Support you to liaise with representatives from social work, housing, health, education, employment, and the voluntary and private sectors
o
Help you to explore funding possibilities to buy the support you might need
o
We are employed by Capability Scotland to provide Local Area Co-ordination for East Lothian Council.
How can local area cordinators help you? We will:
o
Get to know you and listen to your hopes for the future and support you to work towards your goals
o
At your invitation, work alongside you, ensuring that you have control over your own choices by keeping you at the centre of any decision making
o
Assist you to join and participate in community activities of your choice
o
Keep in regular contact and be reliable and consistent
o
Identify gaps and encourage the development of new supports and services
