Active Schools East Lothian

The Active Schools East Lothian programme is a joint initiative between East Lothian Council and sportscotland as part of the Healthy Living Campaign. The programme was identified as a key element of the Scottish Executive’s drive to get more people in Scotland active; a commitment outlined in the National Physical Activity Strategy.

The main aim of the Active Schools East Lothian is to offer school aged children the motivation and opportunities to adopt active, healthy lifestyles throughout their school years and into adulthood. Active Schools is not just about encouraging more children to take part in sport and exercise. It aims to introduce more physical activity into their daily lives through active travel, play and dance.

‘More People, More Active More Often’

The Active Schools team consists of 6 primary and 6 secondary co-ordinators. These co-ordinators are responsible for working in partnership to increase the range of quality opportunities for pupils to become physically active. The programme aims to target:

All school aged children Young women and girls
· Young people from ethnic minorities

· Young people with physical and learning disabilities

The Active Schools Network relies heavily on volunteers to run and deliver a wide range of activities and events. If you are interested in volunteering we have a wide range of opportunities for you, across East Lothian. You can expect full support and full training opportunities where available. If you are interested please do not hesitate to contact us.
