Scenic Car Touring Trails in East Lothian

Stretching along the coast of the Firth of Forth are some of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland, then across to the rolling countryside of the Lammermuir Hills, East Lothian has plenty to offer. A short trip from the City of Edinburgh, ancient towns and villages, dramatic sea cliff castles, world class golf courses and beautiful scenery await you. Experience East Lothian by joining one of the car touring trails, there are three in all; Coastal, Hillfoots and Saltire, each a unique journey - experience the history, culture and hospitality East Lothian has to offer.

The car touring trails allow you to visit all corners of East Lothian, taking in numerous towns and villages, visitor attractions and outstanding scenery. Along each of the routes are interpretation boards highlighting local titbits of information, giving an insight into the local area and its heritage and culture. The boards encourage you to go for a walk in the area, to get out of your car and see a bit more of East Lothian. With great coastal walks, including the John Muir Way, which takes in the entire coastline of East Lothian to short circular walks in some of the hillfoot villages, we encourage you to take some time out and enjoy the great outdoors! Then stop off at a good local pub for lunch and then take in a leisurely afternoon wandering round the shops in some of East Lothian's picturesque towns.

Each of the trails start and end in Musselburgh and Dunbar, allowing you to start your journey at either end of the county.
