Climate Change and the birth of Gifford
The new village of Gifford
Sheila Millar, Senior Librarian, Local History centre will be giving an illustrated talk on the planning of the new village of Gifford and the disappearance of Bothans village during the 1660s - 1700s. This took place in an extraordinary period of climatic change.
Sheila will put together the work done by local historian, John Simpson with the wider context of the time and try to address the problem of what happened to the people of Bothans in the early Agricultural Revolution. The intertwining of environmental and social history is a new approach and will be of interest to those who know and love the village of Gifford as well as those who have an interestr in knowing more about the building of planned villages and the environmental history of East Lothian.
