We hold the transcriptions from many East Lothian graveyards (with more arriving all the time). These can provide a great deal of helpful information for your family tree – but remember, only about one in three people have a gravestone.

We also have a number of burial books that sometimes provide added detail, such as who registered the death, the cause of death and how much was paid for the hearse. They also hold information about all those that died, rather than a small number as is the case with the gravestone indexes.

Please be aware that this is not a uniform series and some inscription books are more complete and detailed than others.
