NEW LOOK FOR MUSSELBURGH FIREWORKS

East Lothian Amenity Services team has just announced a completely new format for this November’s Musselburgh Fireworks.

The popularity of Musselburgh’s annual fireworks display has grown so much over the years that East Lothian’s Musselburgh councillors and the Council’s Amenity Services team have decided that the event needs a complete redesign to cater for the large number of people who now attend. The Council, local councillors and Lothian and Borders Police all had concerns about health and safety at sites used previously. The move to the Race Course will put these concerns to rest.

This November’s event (5 November 2008) is going to take place in Musselburgh Racecourse/Golf Course, which means that the public will be able to watch from the comfort of the grandstand. In a new format, there will be no bonfire, and instead there will be a magnificent professional fireworks display.

Scott Glynn will MC the event. Scott is well known in the county for his after dinner speeches and charitable work. Other entertainment on offer will include Mr Boom, the children’s entertainer from Biggar and the Event Bus from Prestonpans, which will be showcasing some young East Lothian bands.

The race course will throw open its car parking facilities too to make it easier for those coming from further afield, and disabled parking and access will be prioritised.

The event, which is to be called Musselburgh Fireworks, will be financed from the Common Good Fund. Local businesses are also welcome to lend support.

Councillor Stuart Currie, Depute Leader of East Lothian Council, says:

‘East Lothian Council Amenity Services Team is delighted to be running this event again. It just gets more and more popular, and we think that the new-look Musselburgh Fireworks will be a really exciting event for citizens of any age.

‘I hope local businesses will get behind the event, too, and know that my fellow councillors in the Musselburgh area are keen to hear from any business that would like to know more.’
