The Council has introduced new charges for individuals and organisations seeking consent to conduct operations on public roads and pavements such as erecting scaffolding, placing skips, and excavating .
Parliamentary legislation allows the Council to recover charges made for site inspections associated with work to be done on public roads and pavements. These range from a charge of £25 for placing a skip on a road, to £100 for erecting scaffolding on a pavement. In the new list of charges some have increased while others haven't.
Transport spokesman Councillor Paul McLennan said: “The consent charges were last reviewed in 2002 and any increased charges reflect the real costs to the Council of carrying out this inspection work which is vital to ensure public safety. Most of the increases are modest and in some cases, such as placing chairs and tables in public areas, have not changed at all.”
A full list of charges is available by going to the Council's website www.eastlothian.gov.uk , clicking on Transportation and then choosing the Road Permits page.
