Domestic Abuse
What is domestic abuse?

The East Lothian Domestic Abuse Forum defines domestic abuse as:

'. . . any form of physical, non-physical or sexual abuse which tackes place within the context of a close relationship, committed in the home or elsewhere.  This relationship will be between partners (married, co-habiting or otherwise).  In most cases, it is perpetrated by men towards women . . .'

Abuse includes verbal abuse, isolation from family and friends, withholding money. physical injury, sexual assault and rape, and can end in murder.

While we recognise that some men are subject to abuse from female and male partners, domestic abuse is mainly perpetrated by men against women.

Although our priority is to meet the needs of women and children, services will also recognise the needs of men who experience abuse.
