Climate Challenge Fund for Community Groups

Signpost to Funding

The Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund can provide grants of up to £150,000 year until 2015 for community groups to reduce their carbon footprint, save money and improve facilities in their community.

The CCF has been running since 2008 and has funded a wide range of community groups to undertake projects such as:

  • insulate their community halls
  • work with their local neighbourhood to improve energy efficiency and cut fuel bills
  • promote low carbon transport options
  • provide facilities for residents to grow their own fruit and veg.

As long as your group is led by their community and operated on a not for profit basis they could be eligible for funding. Groups receiving CCF funding in the past include: Arts Groups, Sports Clubs, Community Councils, Faith Groups, Student Unions, Residents Associations, Local Charities, Food Groups, Community Led Housing Associations and Development Trusts.

Your community project could receive funding as long as it is:

  1. Community-led with the participants at the heart of decision making
  2. Aims to achieve a realistic and measureable carbon footprint reduction in your community
  3. Demonstrates how you will help create a lasting change in the community after the CCF funded period has finished e.g. an energy efficient community hall.

Projects applying for CCF grants can count on the support of Keep Scotland Beautiful who manage the CCF on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Projects will also receive the support of a Development Officer with everything from initial project ideas to help completing applications and guidance to implement projects.

Free training workshops and networking sessions (including travel expenses!) are offered. These cover aspects from project setup, help with reporting to guidance to help your project flourish after CCF funding has ceased.
