Community Asset Transfer

The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 sets out a formal process for asset transfers. The information on this page will help you when applying for an asset transfer.

Our assets

To help Community Transfer Bodies identify assets that may be available through asset transfer, section 94 of Part 5 of the act requires each relevant authority to establish, maintain and make available a register of land which it owns or leases, "to the best of its knowledge and belief".

Before making a formal transfer request please read the:

How to apply

Expression of Interest (Pre-application stage)

The statutory scheme requires a full request to be made to initiate the formal process. We have also created a pre-application stage so a community body can discuss their proposals less formally with council officers in the first instance.

This is designed to allow dialogue around any particular issues relating to the property or the community body’s intended purpose for it, and any additional options that might be suitable for their stated purposes. The aim is to help you firm up the proposals before undertaking the substantial work required to produce a full asset transfer request, or applying for funding.

The statutory asset transfers request process only starts after a validation letter has been issued by us. We send out this letter to confirm that you have included all the required information with your request.
