Information for Schools

primary

Each education establishment in East Lothian has a named Educational Psychologist who supports them in meeting the needs of a wide range of learners.  We deliver the service through a time allocation model, schools receive a pattern of regular visits based on their school roll and level of deprivation.

The service fulfils its statutory function of giving of advice to parents, schools and the Local Authority regarding children with additional support needs through the delivery of 5 core functions: Consultation, Assessment, Training, Intervention and Research.

Key activities include

  • Contributing to the assessment and intervention process of individual children / young people
  • Building capacity in schools, families and multi-agency partners to meet learners needs and raise attainment
  • Supporting key authority initiatives to contribute to positive outcomes for children and young people

Here is a leaflet describing the role of Educational Psychologists in Scotland.

Educational Psychologists follow professional standards as determined by the British Psychological Society and the Health and Care Professionals Council.

Updates

As part of our work supporting Literacy Attainment, the Service has drawn on current research to produce guidance for all schools: ‘Supporting Children and Young People’s Learning – Identification, Assessment and Intervention of Persistent Difficulties in Reading and/or Spelling’, the document is also on Education Exchange.
