Healthy Reading Scheme

Little girl reading

The Healthy Reading Scheme provides self-help books and resources for children and young people with a wide range of mental health needs, such as:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • grief
  • eating disorders
  • anger management

There are also numerous resources aimed at parents to tackle issues which can arise in childhood, such as challenging behaviour and sleep problems.

Books, or similar resources, are prescribed by health professionals, from GPs to counsellors and community psychiatric nurses and the prescription is then handed in at any East Lothian library for collection. Users do not need to join the library and there are no fines for prescription users.
