IMPORTANT NOTICE if you are a Council tenant and you are claiming Universal Credit
Your Council rent is increasing by 5% from 3 April 2017.
It is vital that you inform the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) of your new rent (housing costs) through your online account, on this date, so that your Universal Credit claim can be updated.
Don't delay or you may not receive your full housing costs.
DWP will not accept notification of this increase from East Lothian Council, as it is your responsibility to manage your Universal Credit claim yourself.
If you fail to inform DWP of this change on 3 April, the housing costs awarded with your Universal Credit claim will NOT cover the full amount of your rent and you will need to make up any shortfall yourself.
If you need help to update your online account.
DWP hold surgeries across East Lothian every week to provide digital support for claimants. if you need help to update your online account, just drop in, no appointment is required.
