What is Get Connected?

Get Connected

Get Connected is an East Lothian project that aims to support children and young people access inclusive leisure, sports, arts, music and drama activities in the local areas.

A Get Connected steering group is made up of representatives from these services and Children Inc. The steering group directs the work of Get Connected.

Get Connected carried out a survey to parents, and 70% of participants said they had experienced difficulties finding information on accessible activities in East Lothian.

A graduate intern was recruited to the post of Get Connected Information Officer in Dec 2016 and created the web source and awareness campaign to improve the way information about activities is communicated to young people, parents carers and professionals.

Next Steps

As a follow up from the Get Connected event, the Get Connected Steering Group has agreed to test out the engagement of young people with additional support needs in mainstream sports and dance activities. The proposed pilot will involve working together with Children Inc, Sports development, Children’s Service Disability Team and children, young people and their families.
