Paying your council tax
East Lothian Council offers a 24 hour online payment service for customers wishing to make a payment by debit or credit card. If you pay by credit card, a surcharge will be added to cover the Bank charges incurred by the Council.
The simplest and most convenient way to pay your council tax is by direct debit. Your payments can be spread over 10 or 12 months within the current financial year. You can choose to set up your instalments to pay on the 5th, 16th or last day of each month.

You can pay over the telephone during office hours using your debit or credit card. If you wish to do so, please call 01875 824301. If you pay by credit card, a surcharge will be added to cover the Bank charges incurred by the Council.

Important information about Universal Credit
If you are of working age and were intending to make a new claim for housing benefit, you may now be required to claim help towards your housing costs as part of your Universal Credit claim.
You will NOT be able to claim for help with your council tax as part of your Universal Credit claim. You MUST make a separate claim to East Lothian Council for this.
