Care of vulnerable people

During severe weather or any other emergency situation, care of vulnerable people is our top priority. Vulnerable people may include:

  • people in care homes
  • people receiving care at home
  • people with mobility or medical problems
  • people who receive the Meals at Home service.

Vulnerable people often receive services from a number of providers in the council, health and voluntary sector. We will work in partnership with your other providers to try to maintain as good a level of service for you during an emergency as we can.

  • For information about arrangements for the Care at Home (domiciliary care) service, please contact 01875 824309
  • For information about arrangements for Meals at Home, please contact 01875 824309
  • For information about scheduled visits from health visitors, community nurses and doctors, please contact your local health centre

Social work services

We try to run our social work services as usual during severe weather. However, sometimes because of difficulties with travel or damage to offices caused by severe weather, our teams have to work out of different offices or from home.

However, we will always provide duty services for Children's Services and Adult Services social work on weekdays, during office hours.

Out-of-hours care will be co-ordinated by the Emergency Social Work service.

In an emergency situation outside our social work office hours, call (Freephone) 0800 731 6969
