School activities and clubs

After-school clubs

Many primary schools in East Lothian have associated after-school clubs offering a range of activities including:

  • baking
  • handicrafts
  • computer games
  • traditional games
  • sports
  • outings

After-school clubs are not run by the school but by members of the local community. A board of management normally manages them, and the Care Inspectorate inspects all after-school clubs to ensure they are suitable and run safely.

Clubs set their own charges, so please speak to them directly for information on availability of places, session costs and times. For more information see the Related Downloads section at the foot of this page.

Some primary schools also have playgroups which provide sessions led by playgroup leaders. These are run independently by parents, and you will have to apply to playgroups directly for more information about session times, availability of places and charges.

You will find more information on after-school clubs and playgroups in East Lothian on the Scottish Family Information Service website.

Before-school care

Some after-school clubs in East Lothian also provide before-school care, and some even provide breakfast. For more information, please see the Breakfast Clubs information in the Downloads section at the bottom of this page.

Secondary schools

Secondary schools offer a range of activities at lunchtimes and after school. These may include:

Schools choose which activities to provide by looking at the interests of their pupils and staff, so the programme of activities varies from school to school. The programme also varies according to what is happening in school each term.

To find out what clubs are available, please contact your school directly; contact details are available at the bottom of this page.
