Food for Life catering - Bronze logo

East Lothian Council has been awarded the prestigious bronze Food for Life Catering Mark from the SoilAssociation for serving fresh and healthy meals in all our primary schools. The requirements for the Bronze Food for Life Catering Mark are:

  • No undesirable additives or hydrogenated fats
  • At least 75% of dishes on the menu are freshly prepared
  • Meat is farm assured as a welfare minimum
  • Eggs are from cage-free hens
  • Menus are seasonal and in-season produce is highlighted
  • No GM ingredients
  • Continuous professional development is available to catering staff, including training in fresh food preparation

We hope that your children enjoy the new menu and that ongoing positive changes like the Food for Life Catering Mark will encourage more children to take school meals.

Active Lifestyles

As well as eating tasty nutritious food, keeping active is essential to a child's well-being and development. East Lothian's 'Get Going' programme provides a fantastic way of helping children achieve an active lifestyle.
