Visual artists and craft makers are invited to apply for funding

East Lothian is an area where many artists live and work. Over recent years the Council has promoted and presented a range of visual arts and crafts activities which have involved a number of artists and craft makers undertaking a range of projects and activities. In order to build on this, visual arts and crafts development has been identified as a strategic priority within the Council’s Cultural Strategy. The intention is to support artists as major contributors to the cultural life of East Lothian.

East Lothian Council, in partnership with Creative Scotland, have established a devolved funding scheme for Visual Artists and Craft Makers to develop their creative practice. The Visual Artists and Craft Makers Awards scheme offers awards to individual makers living/and or working in East Lothian towards costs in creating new work or developing current work.

Awards of up to £1,500 are available. The deadline for applications is Saturday 10 March 2012.

Who can apply?

  • Artists and craft makers living and/or working within the East Lothian Council boundary (working in East Lothian = occupying a studio)
  • Artists and craft makers of all ages
  • Artists and craft makers who can demonstrate a commitment to their work and to advancing their skills and ideas

The quality of the applicant’s work is key. Successful applicants will have shown commitment to developing their own skills and ideas, achieving a body of work outwith formal education.
