A young chef from Preston Lodge High School reached the finals of a UK cooking competition.

A young chef from Preston Lodge High School recently competed with other top young chefs after reaching the final eight from thousand of entries in a UK cooking competition.

Emma Sturrock, a fifth year pupil, travelled to Abingdon near Oxford with her supporters to compete against seven other young chefs in the Rotary Young Chef competition.

Emma's home economics teacher Pamela Hogg, who was there to cheer her on, says

"Emma put on a fantastic array of dishes but despite her best efforts she didn't get into the first three. The standard of cooking was exceptional with the best young chefs in the country competing."

Also there to lend support were Emma's parents and three members of the Longniddry Rotary Club.

"We were all proud of the way she conducted herself under enormous pressure. She has been a great credit to the school to get through all the heats and cook at this level," Pamela said. "Many thanks to Derek Johnstone, Head Chef at Greywalls Hotel for all the support and encouragement he has given Emma over the last few months."

Thousands of youngsters entered ithe 2012 competition and were shortlisted down to eight after competing in local and regional competitions. The contestants prepared and presented their three course meals for judging by an expert panel including Danilo Trozzi, Fellippo Berio's Head Chef, Lizzie Kamenetzky, Food Editor from Delicious Magazine and Olly McGeorge who was the 2011 winner.

Fifteen-year-old Isabelle Chavez from Fleet took the top chef title.
