Well-known Ormiston resident Moira Swinton on Monday unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening of the village’s £900,000 community centre.

She was  marking the official opening of the village’s £900,000 community centre.

Councillor Tim Day, Cabinet Member for Community Services said:

Moira won this year’s Community Council Award for Services to Ormiston and is also a member of the community centre steering group so we’re delighted she is opening the centre for us. I know it’s already being well used and appreciated by the community and we expect that to keep on growing as more and more people get the chance to experience the facilities the building offers.

The George Street building is on the same site as the old community centre, which was no longer fit for purpose. After extensive community consultation, it was decided to demolish the old building and construct a new, purpose-built facility to serve the community for years to come.

The new centre has flexible accommodation including a new badminton court-sized hall, which can be divided in two for dual use, a multi-purpose room, a crèche, a community kitchen and cafe.
