East Lothian Council has welcomed the extra trains that the government has announced will run between Edinburgh and Dunbar on Saturdays from mid-December.

The additional train services in the county are among a number across Scotland announced by Transport Scotland and ScotRail as part of a new winter timetable.

The enhanced Edinburgh to Dunbar service will begin from Saturday 15 December and run from Edinburgh Waverley at 10.08, 12.08, 14.08 and 16.08; returning from Dunbar at 11.04, 13.04, 15.04, and 17.07. All the trains will stop at Musselburgh.

The Council’s transport spokesman Councillor Michael Veitch said:

I welcome this improvement in train services which will be of great benefit to the residents of Dunbar, giving them more choice. They will be able to enjoy a more stress-free journey into Edinburgh at the weekends for shopping and leisure by leaving their cars at home and avoiding – and helping to relieve - congestion on the roads. Enhanced transport links should also lead to the town becoming more attractive for investment and job opportunities.
