Willie Innes and Angela Leitch unveil an Investors in People plaque in John Muir House, Haddington

Willie Innes, leader of the Council, and Angela Leitch, Chief Executive, unveiled the Investors in People plaque on Wednesday.

Leader of East Lothian Council Willie Innes and Chief Executive Angela Leitch on Wednesday 3rd September unveiled the plaque which marks East Lothian Council as an accredited Investors in People organisation at John Muir House, Haddington.

This external award measures how well the Council is developing employees to continually improve performance.  It includes measuring how effectively employees are developed, how good communication is across the council, and leadership and management styles. The accreditation process involved Investors in People External Assessors interviewing a representative sample of staff and managers across the Council. The Assessors then identified the Council’s strengths whilst also informing areas which can be developed further.

Angela Leitch, Chief Executive for East Lothian Council, said:

“I genuinely appreciate the work that has gone on to embed these practices in our organisation.

This is a great reflection of the enthusiasm and commitment of the entire council workforce.”

Willie Innes, Leader of the Council, added:

“This external recognition displays our commitment to the development of the approximately 4100 employees who work for East Lothian Council, and will help us to continue to attract and retain excellent members of staff.”

Investors in People status lasts for a period of three years and the Council can re-apply in 2017. Find out more on the Investors in People website.
