You pay, have your say

Local residents asked for their views on future budget

East Lothian Council has launched a community consultation exercise to allow residents and local groups to express their views on how the council should be spending its money over the next three years and what we should be prioritising.

Public spending cuts mean that the amount of money the council can expect to help pay for local services is likely to continue to reduce. Managers and staff are constantly looking for ways to save money and be more efficient. But, particularly with less money to go around, we are equally interested in the views of the people of East Lothian.

You pay… have your say is designed to give local people the opportunity to set out their own priorities when it comes to providing local services and facilities in their area. A ‘Spending Choices’ budget consultation paper has been produced and is available at https://eastlothianconsultations.co.uk/council-resources/east-lothian-council-public-budget-consultation/

Residents, businesses and local groups have until Friday 6 January 2017 to respond with their views. The council will agree its budget at a special meeting in February 2017.

East Lothian Council Leader Councillor Willie Innes said:

“Local authorities across the country continue to face economic challenges and we will have to be extremely careful with our resources next year, which is why it is so important that people take part in the consultation. We’re hoping to get feedback from our partners, the third sector, local businesses, communities, interest groups and individuals. Please, give us your views and ideas about what you want to see in the council’s budget for next year.”
