Report highlights strong financial management

Council maintains focus on delivering high-quality services.
Providing high-quality public services across the county while managing finances prudently remains a priority, Willie Innes said today (Tuesday 14 February).
The Council Leader was speaking as a Financial Review for the third quarter of 2016-17 was presented to East Lothian Council’s Cabinet.
The report shows that – despite a generally challenging climate and continued reductions in central government funding, which makes up the bulk of East Lothian Council’s income – the local authority is managing its finances effectively.
Given the pressures faced, the report acknowledges the importance of the Council continuing to monitor its financial position to deliver services within available resources.
Mr Innes said:
“Despite the significant pressures we face as a result of reduced funding from the Scottish Government, this report highlights that East Lothian Council continues to demonstrate a strong and prudent approach to the management of its resources.
“This is enabling us to continue providing high-quality services to residents across the county.
“It also provides us with a basis moving forward as we look to finalise our budget for 2017/18. In doing so, we will maintain a firm focus on delivering for East Lothian – helping our children achieve their potential, supporting older and vulnerable people, protecting the environment and building an increasingly sustainable economy.”
