Children's author Pamela Butchart wins Lennox Award

Children’s author, Pamela Butchart, has been voted the winner of the East Lothian Libraries Lennox Award 2017 by the county’s P5, P6 and P7 pupils and presented with a specially commissioned glass award at an event at Ormiston Primary.

Every year the senior primary pupils are invited to vote for their favourite in a shortlist of authors and they must have read at least one book by each of the shortlisted authors. This year’s authors are:

  • Pamela Butchart
  • Elizabeth Laird
  • Ross MacKenzie

The shortlisted authors were selected by young people and library staff, and are all based in the UK, writing specifically for 9 to 12 year-olds. This year, the theme of the award was ‘awards’ and the nominated authors all were winners of other literary awards.

Children taking part in the competition were invited to champion one of these authors and to take as creative an approach to this as possible. Pupils used a wide range of media, including PowerPoint, film, creative writing, drama and art displays.
