Work is going on apace with the new East Lothian Community Hospital and our project team is now focusing on what the interiors of the hospital will look like.

East Lothian Community Hospital Project Team Manager Miriam Anderson says:

‘We are now researching and writing the Arts Strategy for the hospital. This will help us to plan creative activity in and around the hospital building. Our aim is to provide a positive, patient-centred creative environment and we want your views on what this could look like.

‘Sitting alongside medical care, the arts can have a really positive impact on people experiencing mental or physical health issues. Experiencing and engaging in the arts is mentally stimulating, promoting greater wellbeing and resilience, and can make a hospital stay a more compassionate and positive experience for both patients and visitors. The arts can also improve hospitals as working environments’.

The East Lothian Community Hospital Team is asking the local community in the county to take part in a questionnaire about what sort of themes and artistic activities they would like to see in the new hospital.

East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership Director David Small adds:

‘This really is the community’s hospital and we want the people who will be using it to tell us what the interiors and art could look like. And we’re not just talking about colour schemes and pictures. There is potential for markets, workshops, performances and other creative activities. Please go online and take part in our questionnaire and tell us what you would like our arts strategy to include.’

The closing date has been extended to 6 May 2017 at midnight.
