The Brunton's Fringe programme

The Brunton (Venue 191) is your Fringe venue by the coast this August, with eighteen amazing shows suitable for the whole family. Tickets are on sale now.

Watch a little theatre or catch a concert, take a stroll on the beach, soak up the sun, enjoy the fresh salty air and relax with an ice cream. So what are you waiting for? Book your Fringe Escape now!

Headlining this year is Scotland’s finest singer-songwriter, Dougie MacLean (Thu 10 Aug), internationally renowned for his chart-topping song Caledonia, music for Last of the Mohicans and other inspired performances. His songs have been covered by hosts of artists, including Scottish stars Paolo Nutini and Amy MacDonald, Irish greats Ronan Keating, Mary and Frances Black and many more. An incredible opportunity to experience this living legend, live in concert.

For open-air Fringe entertainment, bring your folding chairs, blankets and picnic, and join us for a delightful selection of outdoor theatre in two beautiful venues. Illyria, one if the UK’s most popular outdoor theatre companies, perform Gilbert & Sullivan’s wry satire The Mikado (Sat 19 Aug) on the Loretto Lawn at Musselburgh Racecourse. This fabulous location is a new outdoor theatre venue for us. A summer opera to leave a smile on your face and a song in your heart! If you don’t want to bring your own picnic, the café will be open at the Racecourse. The much loved Quantum Theatre returns to The National Trust For Scotland’s Inveresk Lodge Garden with Alice Through The Looking Glass and Great Expectations (Sat 26 Aug); treats for all the family.

With a wealth of phenomenal tribute acts and live bands, The Brunton is the perfect place to catch a concert or two. Experience an energy filled, toe tapping and hand clapping night of entertainment with globally renowned Irish folk band, The Kilkennys (Fri 11 Aug); a powerful mix of acoustic and up-tempo electric blues material with a high energy performance by Main Street Blues (Fri 25 Aug); and a foot-stomping, heart-warming traditional and original set by one of Scotland’s leading folk ‘n’ roll bands, Scocha (Sat 26 Aug).

Leave your 9 to 5 worries at the door and get ready for a night in the company of country music royalty with Islands in the Stream – Celebrating the Queen and King of Country: Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Enjoy a show packed with hits including Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You (Fri 11 Aug).

Journey through a catalogue of Pink Floyd classics in an unforgettable evening with festival favourites MacFloyd (Sat 12 Aug); put on your glad rags and platforms and boogie on down to The Brunton for a nostalgic trip back to the era of funk with The Counterfeit Seventies (Thu 17 Aug); or if you like a sing along, Oh! Carol: The Musical Story of Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield (Sat 19 Aug), is most definitely the show for you.

Those with a soft spot for traditional music can enjoy the sounds and memories of a bygone era live at The Brunton as the Nick Ross Orchestra (Sat 12 Aug) present an unmissable evening of music and song with the classic Big Band Sound of the Glenn Miller Era. Soloists Ivor Klayman, Susan McNaught, Angela Estrada and David Lynn join the chorus of EGO for their extraordinary concert Celebrating 60 Years of Edinburgh Grand Opera (Thu 24 Aug).

Classical music fans have an opportunity to hear the rising stars of the classical world in the Pianos @ One lunchtime concert series: a showcase of the finest piano and chamber music from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and St Mary’s Music School students. Enjoy lunch in the upstairs bar (from 12noon) before enjoying a delightful hour of classical music in the intimate and informal surroundings of venue 2 (1pm). Programmes feature classics from the piano repertoire alongside a few surprises along the way.
